Thackeray urges Hindus to unite

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray said that his dream was to feel a "Hindustan of Hindus". Urging the Hindus to break linguistic barriers and unite, the Shiv Sena chief said that the unity would bring "Islam in this country down to its knees". He was addressing a massive rally at the Shivaji Park."It is my dream that we would create a Hindustan of the Hindus. Maharashtrians or Punjabis alone cannot fight against Islam. That is why, I appeal to all Hindus to break the linguistic wall around them and come together so that we can bring Islam in this country down to its knees," Thackeray said. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi also addressed the rally in an effort to boost prospects of Sena-BJP combine at Mumbai civic polls on February 1.

The Sena chief praised Modi and described him as "a staunch Hindu"."When the Godhra riots happened, knives were out for him but nobody spoke about Godhra incident itself. If the reaction of the Babri masjid demolition could reach Mumbai in the form of riots, then there is nothing wrong if the wave of Godhra incident reached Ahmedabad. It was a spontaneous reaction and there is nothing wrong with that," Thackeray said.Thackeray also launched a scathing attack on Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, saying, "he (Rane) let down Sena out of greed for Chief Minister's chair and now he says he loves and respects me. I also love and respect him but what is the use? It is like professing love and respect for a woman after divorcing her."
